Fort moves to 2-0 in MAC (09/08/06)

MINSTER, Ohio - Two down, six more to go.

The Fort Recovery volleyball team battled through a close first game, but controlled the second and third Thursday. Coming off a loss to defending state champion Lehman Catholic, it earned its second Midwest Athletic Conference win by topping the Minster Wildcats 27-25, 25-14, 25-16.

Tiff Gaerke led the Indians (5-2, 2-0 MAC) with 26 kills, nine points, seven digs and three blocks.

Lauren Wenning also had three blocks, and added 11 digs.

Abby Niekamp finished with 35 assists and 14 points, both team highs, and Vicki Roessner had 12 digs and nine points.

Brittany Brackman came up with 13 digs, and Joanna Snyder notched five blocks.

Junior varsity

The Indians slipped to 1-3 on the year with a 25-22, 25-23 loss to Minster.

Fort Recovery (0-2 MAC) got 15 assists, six points and four kills from Nicole Pott-kotter.

Anne Koesters added five points and four kills, and Kelsey Wuebker totaled 23 assists.

Freshman

FORT RECOVERY - Josie Guggenbiller paced Fort Recovery in points and assists, but the Indians lost 25-15, 25-16 to the St. Henry Redskins.

Guggenbiller powered the Tribe with nine assists and five points. She also had two blocks and one kill.

Emily May finished with three kills, three digs and two points, and Sylvia Schwieterman had three blocks.

Junior high

Both teams are still looking for their first win after a pair of losses to St. Henry.

The eighth grade Indians forced a third game, but still fell 25-10, 21-25, 25-22. Fort Recovery's seventh grade team took a 25-18, 25-9 defeat.

Holly Thien finished with six kills, two blocks, two points, one assist and one dig for the eighth grade squad (0-4). Olivia Thien had six kills and four points, and Kendra Brunswick notched seven points. Holly Brunswick finished with 11 assists.

Kara Faller's four points led the seventh grade team (0-4). Olivia Schwieterman added two points, and Kayla Kahlig had two kills.[[In-content Ad]]
