Fort nets clean-up funds (5/17/05)
By By Jennifer Tarter-
FORT RECOVERY — An additional $5,800 reimbursement to the village for expenses from the January ice storm made the $35,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency even sweeter.
Fort Recovery village administrator Randy Diller reported at the village council meeting Monday that FEMA will reimburse the village $35,099.04 and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency will pay $5,849.84. That will leave $5,849.84 of the clean-up cost to be covered by the village.
The OEMA reimbursement was expected, but the amount to be received was unknown, Diller said.
“This is good news for us,” Diller said this morning. “(OEMA reimbursement) is more than we expected.”
These funds will reimburse the village for clean-up expenses for debris removal, costs to replace a fence and repair a light in Fort Site Park that were damaged by the storm and additional projected clean-up expenses that will be incurred by the village up until Aug. 16.
Also Monday, the council heard Diller report that the final phase of the Gwendolyn Street improvement project is estimated to cost $248,000.
Diller said this morning that the village plans to advertise for bids during the next two weeks and open bids for the project on Thursday, June 2.
This phase of the project will reconstruct streets, curbs and sidewalks.
Construction could begin at the earliest in late June or early July and be completed in late summer or early fall, Diller said.
In a related discussion, Diller reported that the village is seeking quotes to pave three blocks of South Wayne Street, located south of Center Street, and part of Caldwell Street, between Gwendolyn and George streets.
These areas are currently unpaved following a project to replace sanitary sewer lines on Gwendolyn and West Center streets, which causes dust for residents on that street.
The estimated cost of the paving is $7,500, Diller said earlier this month.
In other business, council members:
•Heard Diller announce that there will be a special informational meeting held today at 7 p.m. (Ohio time) for village residents affected by the Gwendolyn Street improvement project. Diller said this morning that council members and the project’s engineer will be at the meeting to answer questions from residents who want to know how the project will specifically affect them and a project timeline. Residents also will be able to look at the construction plans.
There will be no action taken by the council tonight.
•Approved the $12,990 purchase of 10 street lights from Mesco Electrical Supply of New Bremen, Ohio.
The lights will be installed by village employees on streets included in the Gwendolyn Street improvement project, Diller said.
•Heard Fort Recovery Police Chief Maggie Hartings report that National Night Out, sponsored locally by the police department, will be held Sunday, July 17 at Ambassador Pool.
•Heard Diller thank the approximately 40 volunteers who helped on the May 7 park work day.
•Approved transfers of $3,500 to the industrial park debt fund from the income tax fund and $4,500 to the water debt fund from the water revenue fund.
•Heard that a veterans parade and Memorial Day program will be held by Fort Recovery American Legion Post 345 and the VFW Post 6515 on Friday, May 27. The parade will begin at 7 p.m. on North Wayne Street and travel south on Wayne Street to Boundary Street and end at Monument Park, where a program will be held at 7:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
