Fort Recovery blasts Pirates

FORT RECOVERY - There was little suspense at the Fort Site Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

Kendra Brunswick hit a 3-pointer to open the game, and the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team never trailed. The Indians rolled out to a 21-4 lead after the first quarter and cruised to an 88-55 victory Saturday over the Riverside Pirates.

The Indians (9-2) stayed ahead by double digits throughout the game, taking a 26-point lead into the final quarter. They forced 33 Riverside turnovers and outscored the Pirates 27-11 at the foul line.

Chelsea Leuthold led a group of five Fort Recovery players in double figures with 19 points. She also had five steals.

Olivia Thien came off the bench for 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Kendra Brunswick scored 13 points. Alyssa Brackman and Holly Brunswick each chipped in 11 points.

Kelly Nietfeld grabbed six rebounds, Nicole Pottkotter had five assists and Brackman matched Leuthold with five steals.

Junior varsity

Fort Recovery built a 19-point halftime lead on the way to a 53-33 win over the Pirates.

Kylie Kahlig and Chelsea Pottkotter powered the Indians with 16 and 15 points respectively. Pottkotter added 11 rebounds, and Kahlig had six boards, five steals and three assists.

Ashley Jones carried the scoring load for Riverside with 20 points. She also grabbed four rebounds.[[In-content Ad]]
