Fort Recovery crushes Green Wave (02/02/2009)

FORT RECOVERY - The Indians experienced a seesaw battle of epic proportions Friday night as their triple overtime heartbreaker saw 16 lead changes and 23 ties. Saturday, they left nothing to the imagination.
The Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team led wire-to-wire, building a double-digit lead in the first quarter and cruising to a 57-32 victory over the Greenville Green Wave.
Craig Tobe hit the first hoop of the game to put the Tribe in front, and Greg Kahlig scored eight of his game-high 16 points during the Indians 16-5 first period. They remained up by 10 at the half and pulled away with an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter.
Greg Kahlig also grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out four assists for Fort Recovery (10-4), which took Division IV No. 1 New Knoxville to triple overtime Friday night. The defending state champion Rangers have won 40 straight games and have not lost a regular season game since 2006.
Frank Thien also reached double figures with 10 points to go along with four steals. Toby Metzger had eight points and 10 rebounds as the Indians outworked Greenvile 38-19 on the glass.
Graham Luce's eight points were a team-high for the Green Wave (8-7). Mac Fiely added seven points, and Chris Lockhart grabbed five rebounds.
Junior varsity
Shane Brunswick racked up 17 points to help lift the Indians to a 40-36 win over Greenville.
Michael Gaerke added 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals for Fort Recovery, which led by nine at halftime and won despite shooting just 25 percent in the second half. Ryan Schoen added five assists.
Dylan Onoz had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Green Wave.
