Fort Recovery falls to LCC in OT (02/19/05)
FRHS boys basketball
LIMA, Ohio — It was a low-scoring game. But even in such a contest, one point in overtime wasn’t going to get the job done.
Neither team shot above 50 percent Friday night and neither hit a field goal in the extra session, but the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds went 6-of-10 from the foul line in overtime to pull out a 41-36 victory over the Fort Recovery Indians.
The Tribe (12-8) lost its season finale as it shot 35 percent and scored in double digits in just one quarter. LCC also only broke the 10-point barrier in one period, scoring 13 in the fourth to force overtime.
Fort Recovery led by as many as 10 points, 34-24 in that that fourth quarter, but fell apart in the final five minutes. The Thunderbirds rallied back with a 3-pointer by Ryan Rettig and two more from Louie DeRose as they outscored the visitors 10-1 down the stretch.
In the extra session, the Indians went 0-of-3 from the field and made just one of their three free-throw tries.
Rettig led the Thunderbirds, who weren’t much better from the field at 38 percent, with 11 points. Jarin Johnson added 10 points, and Nick Page added seven points and seven rebounds.
Dusty Tobe (14 points) and Travis VanSkyock (10 points) combined to shot 9-of-18 from the field (50 percent) for Fort Recovery. However, the rest of the squad was a paltry 4-of-19 (21 percent).
Sean Kahlig finished with game highs of 10 rebounds and five assists.
Fort Recovery also dropped the junior varsity contest, 48-29.
Tony Diller had 10 points for the Indians, and Aaron Kahlig added nine.
Neal Shine went 4-of-5 to pace LCC with nine points.[[In-content Ad]]
