Fort Recovery finishes 3rd

FRHS cross country

COLDWATER, Ohio - No one was going to catch the Cavaliers. Fort Recovery fell just short of the Flyers.

The Indian girls cross country team placed third out of five teams at Tuesday's Mercer County Meet, scoring 71 points to finish two behind runner-up Marion Local. Coldwater dominated with 15.

FRHS finished fifth in the six-team boys field with 131 points, 16 ahead of last-place Parkway. St. Henry fought off the host Cavaliers by three points for the win.

Coldwater was dominant in the girls competition, taking each of the top six positions. Fort Recovery was the only other school to place multiple runners in the top 10 as Marissa Brunswick led the squad in ninth with a time of 22 minutes, 12 seconds. Abby May was just two seconds behind Brunswick in 10th place.

Casey Backs took 13th in 22:43, Nicole Heitkamp was 16th at 23:04 and Abby Huelksamp finished 25th in 23:39.

Ryan Heitkamp was the only Tribe boy to crack the top 20, posting a time of 18:53 for 13th place. Nathan Fullenkamp was 22nd in 19:45, and Calvin Kaiser finished 25th in 19:57.

Also scoring were Marshal Hull (46th - 22:22) and Zach Guggenbiller (49th - 22:46).

Other runners for the Indians were Alexis Sutter (28th - 23:51) and Samantha Tobe (29th - 24:03) for the girls, and Adam Pohl (52nd - 23:29) and Andy Gray (53rd - 23:46) for the boys.

Middle school

Josh Pohl and Derek Sutter led the field for the Fort Recovery boys, who won the four-team event with 44 points. Celina and Coldwater each scored 50.

The Tribe girls finished with 58 points to place second behind Coldwater (58).

Pohl dominated the boys race, running more than a minute faster than all of the other 34 runners. He finished in 11:36.

Sutter finished in 12:46 to take the runner-up spot. He was more than 20 seconds faster than third-place finisher Colt Mertz of Celina.

Joey Gonzalez finished seventh in 13:31, Grant Hull was 18th in 14:05 and Isaac Keller took 23rd in 14:36.

Jessica Vogel paced the FRMS girls in third place at 13:38. Elle Sutter followed with a time of 14:02 for sixth place.

Kinsey McEldowney was 12th in 15:04 ahead of Samantha Kaiser (18th - 15:39) and Cassie Gray (21st - 15:48).[[In-content Ad]]
