FRHS girls basketball
FORT RECOVERY - Another strong push to the buzzer dashed an opponent's hopes of handing Fort Recovery its first loss.
The host Indians trailed 19-17 with 3:30 left in the opening half Thursday against the Minster Wildcats. Then seniors Holly Stein and Vicki Roessner buried back-to-back 3-pointers in a span of just 21 seconds as the Tribe finished the second quarter on a 10-1 run. It led by at least five points the rest of the way in a 53-45 win over the Minster Wildcats.
Fort Recovery stayed perfect through the first half of its schedule at 10-0, although the Wildcats were just the third team this year to stay within single digits.
Following the 3-pointers by Stein and Roessner, which were assisted by each other, Stein added a jumper and fellow senior Tiff Gaerke nailed a pair of free throws for a 27-20 halftime advantage. The Indians added the first three points of the second half, then scored the final eight of the third quarter - four apiece by Roessner and Gaerke.
The big finishes gave Fort Recovery a 32-18 scoring advantage in the middle two quarters as they pushed to 3-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.
Stein racked up 20 points to lead the Indians, Gaerke scored 12 and Roessner finished with nine. The trio combined to shoot 17-of-31 for 55 percent.

Roessner had six steals, helping to contribute to the Wildcats' 27 turnovers, and dished out five assists. Fellow senior Sara Fortkamp added eight points.

It was almost as if the basket was smaller-than-usual on one end and larger-than-usual on the other.
