FRHS baseball
SIDNEY, Ohio — The Fairlawn Jets made the first game interesting with a seventh-inning rally. Fort Recovery made sure a comeback wouldn’t even be a possibilty in game two with some seventh-inning fireworks of their own.
The Indians’ baseball team held on for a 5-4 game-one victory Saturday, and racked up 13 runs in the final inning of the second game to complete the sweep with an 18-5 triumph.
The Tribe improved to 6-3 with the pair of wins. It won just eight games last year, and has not been over .500 since the sectional championship season of 2001.
Todd Post paced the offensive explosion late in the day for the Tribe, which had five players finish with at least two hits in game two. He finished 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases.
Sean Kahlig and Tony Diller each added three hits, and Dusty Tobe and Greg Faller had two apiece. Faller and Kahlig each scored three runs, and Diller drove in three. Tobe had two runs and two RBIs.
Brad Fortkamp benefited from the big numbers to improve to 2-1 on the season. He went the distance, allowing five runs — three earned — on 10 hits. He racked up 10 strikeouts and gave up just one walk.
Fort Recovery led 5-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning in the first game. Fairlawn got close, scoring three runs in the final frame, but couldn’t come all the way back against freshman Bobby Rammel.
Rammel got his first career win as he struck out eight and walked three in seven innings. He allowed four runs — three earned — on six hits.
He did his best to help his cause at the plate, garnering two of the Tribe’s three hits. He also scored once.
Kevin Schoenherr had a two-run single in the third inning, and Post and Diller each finished with a run and a stolen base.[[In-content Ad]]
