Fort Recovery shuts out 5th-ranked Bulldogs (04/12/05)
FRHS softball
So much for having trouble winning close games.
Through the first two weeks of the season the Fort Recovery softball team was 2-5, with four losses by one run. But the Indians made a statement Monday by not only winning a tight game, but doing so against the visiting Division II No. 5 Celina Bulldogs, 1-0.
It was the first loss of the season for Celina, which had opened 7-0.
Fort Recovery (3-5) got the win thanks to an outstanding effort from senior pitcher Alyssa Tobe, who tossed a four-hit shutout. She struck out 10 and gave up just one walk.
The Indians also had just four hits, but drew six walks, including a big one by Ciera Rammel in the fifth inning. Rammel, who walked in each of her three plate appearances, came around to score the winning run on an RBI single by her sister, Krystal.
Also garnering hits for the Tribe in the game were Tobe, Renee Evers and Megan Wenning.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team visited Celina Monday and took a 7-2 defeat.
Lori Osterholt suffered the loss, allowing five runs in 41/3 innings. Kim Willmann gave up two runs in 12/3 innings of relief.
Tana Bergman led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. The Tribe (3-4) out-hit the Bulldogs 11-7, but couldn’t put together a big inning as it scored its only two runs in the sixth inning after trailing 6-0.
Heather Schmackers went 3-for-4, and Abby Niekamp was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run. Lauren Wenning scored the only other run for the Indians.[[In-content Ad]]
