Fort Recovery wins 3rd straight crown (05/16/08)
FRHS baseball
MINSTER, Ohio - The Indians live for the playoffs.
Over the course of the last three seasons, the Fort Recovery High School baseball team has barely been a .500 squad. But put the season on the line and everything changes.
The Tribe won its third straight Division IV sectional title Thursday, getting a second straight tournament shutout from sophomore starter Greg Kahlig for a 4-0 win over the New Bremen Cardinals.
Fort Recovery had lost in regular-season play to New Bremen 5-3 last week.
Kahlig, who blanked Waynesfield-Goshen on two hits in the first round of the tournament, limited New Bremen (10-9) to just four hits. He walked three batters while striking out nine.
The Indians (9-10) got the only run Kahlig would need in the second inning when Clint Tobe drew a one-out walk, stole second base and advance to third on a wild pitch. Brady Kahlig followed with a sacrifice fly ball to left field to bring Tobe to the plate.
Bobby Rammel, who went 2-for-3, singled and scored in the third inning and walked and scored in the fifth. Travis Hart walked, stole a base scored thanks to a pair of wild pitches in the fourth.
Fort Recovery advances to the district tournament at Coldwater, where it will play either Crestview or Ottoville Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
