FORT RECOVERY — A dominating offense led by Aaron Vagedes and Kenny Wenning and a stifling defense took the Indians to their second straight win Friday as they rolled over the visiting Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers 29-15.
Vagedes rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns and kicked a field goal, while Wenning passed for 137 yards and a TD and rushed for 111 yards more.
In all, Fort Recovery racked up 393 yards of total offense while holding the visitors to 206.
The Indians scored first when Wenning hit Ryan Schoen for a 38-yard touchdown pass at 8:40 in the first quarter.
Then with 10:06 on the clock in the second quarter, Jason Pottkotter found Derek Gaerke for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Pottkotter completed 2-of-4 attempts for the night, while Wenning hit 12-of-22.

But Fort Recovery (2-0) wasn’t going to let the visitors back in the game. Pottkotter connected with Gaerke for a 19-yard pass play that gave the Indians a first down on the 11-yard line. Vagedes took the ball into the end zone on the next play, and Gaerke ran in for the 2-point conversion to give the Indians a 19-7 lead at the half.
Vagedes broke loose again at 6:29 in the third quarter with a 64-yard touchdown run that took the wind out of Waynesfield-Goshen’s sails. And he wasn’t finished.
With 10:32 on the clock in the fourth, Vagedes kicked a 25-yard field goal to make it 29-7 and effectively put the game out of reach. With his two rushing touchdowns, field goal and two extra points, he accounted for 17 of the Tribe’s points single-handedly.
Waynesfield Goshen scored in the final minutes on a 24-yard pass play from Mortimer to O’Leary. Cory Hickman’s 2-point conversion attempt was good, but it was far too little too late.[[In-content Ad]]
