Fort rolls to 42-point win (12/11/06)

ANSONIA, Ohio - For the fourth time in five games, the Fort Recovery girls basketball team didn't even allow its opposition to consider winning.
The Indians stormed out to a 14-2 lead Saturday and never trailed in a 61-19 slaughter of the Ansonia Tigers. Four of their five wins thus far have come by more than 20 points, with two of those clearing 40 points.
Tiff Gaerke staked Fort Recovery (5-0) to its lead, hitting 6-of-7 field-goal attempts in the opening 2:34 of the contest. She scored 12 of her game-high 15 points in that opening run, which combined with a hoop from fellow senior Vicki Roessner for the early 12-point lead.
The Tribe remained up by 10 a break and outscored Ansonia 18-2 in the second quarter. The Tigers managed just three third-quarter points as Fort Recovery rolled to the 42-point win.
Holly Stein and Sara Fortkamp followed Gaerke with eight points apiece. Gaerke and Stein each grabbed eight rebounds, leading the Indians to their 44-18 advantage on the glass. Roessner totaled six assists and six steals.
Fort Recovery, which is allowing an average of just 29.6 points per game, also forced 29 turnovers and limited the Tigers to 25 percent shooting.
Courtney Swabb's seven points for a team-high for Ansonia. She also had four rebounds and two assists.
Amanda Marshall was next with four points and five rebounds.
Junior varsity
Fort Recovery forced an amazing 40 turnovers, built a 20-2 lead in the opening quarter and cruised to a 51-14 victory over the Tigers.
Chelsey Leuthold shot 7-of-11 for a game-high 15 points for the Indians (4-1), who limited Ansonia to two points in the first and third periods. She also had four rebounds and three assists.
Nicole Pottkotter added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Kelsey Wuebker had eight steals.
Laura Francis' three points were a team-high for the Tigers, who were limited to 23 percent shooting.[[In-content Ad]]
