Fort runners place ninth (09/02/2008)

FRHS cross country

GREENVILLE - Tina Roessner was the only Fort Recovery High School runner to finish in the top 40 Saturday at the Treaty City Invitational.

The Tribe senior placed 28th in the girls green division, leading the FRHS team to a ninth-place effort in the 16-team group.

The Indians scored 214 points, finishing six behind eighth-place Greenon and 52 in front of 10th-place Southeastern. Versailles won easily with 35 points, and Russia was second at 88.

Fort Recovery's boys (550) were 21st out of 22 teams, finishing ahead of North Lewisburg. Russia took the top spot with 69 points, and New Bremen was second.

Roessner, who was the runner-up at the season-opener Celina Rotary Invitational, finished two seconds behind Carrie Spurgeon of Covington in 21-minutes, 47.67 seconds. Mary Prakel of Versailles won the race in 19:54.2.

Freshman Nicole Heitkamp was the only other Tribe runner in the top 50, placing 48th with a time of 23:11. Alexis Sutter was 51st in 23:22, Abby Huelskamp crossed the finish line in 23:40 for 58th place and Amber Heitkamp capped the team score in 67th at 24:05.

The girls team is 15-11 this season.

Ryan Heitkamp was the top runner for the Tribe boys as he took 58th in 18:53.13.

Caleb Heitkamp was next in 110th with a time of 20:04.

Also scoring for Fort Recovery (4-30) were Mathias Koester (142nd - 21:38), Adam Pohl (163rd - 22:59) and Zach Guggenbiller (165th - 23:07).

Christen Wendel led the Fort Recovery junior varsity girls, who placed 14th out of 15 teams, in 128th at 26:55.

Junior high

Fort Recovery's boys finished eighth in a mammoth 34-team field, and the girls placed 12th among 28 teams.

Josh Pohl had the top effort for the Tribe, leading the boys team in 14th place with a time of 12:04.99. Abby May powered the FRMS girls in 33rd place at 13:54.

Nathan Fullenkamp was second for the Indian boys in 12:33 for 32nd place. Derek Sutter placed 41st in 12:40, Marshal Hull was 89th at 13:37 and Calvin Kaiser finished 136th in 14:12.

Samantha Tobe followed May for the girls team in 41st at 14:01. Jessica Vogel placed 72nd in 14:51, Elle Sutter was 149th at 15:53 and Emily Kahlig finished 231st with a time of 17:27.
