Fort seeking sewer bids (12/7/04)
By By Jennifer Tarter-
FORT RECOVERY — An estimated $80,000 project is moving forward after village council members here voted Monday to advertise for construction bids.
This project will replace sanitary sewer lines on Gwendolyn and West Center streets. This is the second of three projects planned for this area.
Fort Recovery village administrator Randy Diller told council members Monday that bids should be ready to open in January and the project could be completed by May.
In the first phase of this project, work to replace water and storm sewer lines is nearly complete, Diller said this morning. The majority of this project, which cost approximately $50,000, was completed by village employees.
The final phase of this project will create curbs and sidewalks, and the streets will be resurfaced. Diller said Monday he hopes this phase will also be completed in 2005.
Also Monday, Diller reported the village’s grant application for a planned stormwater control project on George Street from Washington Street to Hickory Circle was not approved by the Ohio Public Works Commission.
Village officials requested an approximately $285,000 grant to help fund the estimated $385,000 stormwater control, street, curbs and sidewalks reconstruction project on George Street.
Diller said Monday the village will “seek smaller local grants to fund the project or break the project into phases and try to tackle it that way.”
In other business, board members voted to continue three tax abatements with Fort Recovery Industries after Diller reported that the Fort Recovery Tax Incentive Review Council examined the abatements and recommended the continuation.
Also Monday, council members:
•Voted to set aside up to $500 from the general fund for the village’s Christmas party on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at Meinerding’s Restaurant in Fort Recovery. This party is for village employees and council members.
•Approved the second reading of the village’s updated wage ordinance that includes changes to the village’s mileage reimbursement rate and allows town employees to be paid for jury duty. Council members will vote on the third and final reading of this ordinance at their Dec. 20 meeting.
•Approved the third and final reading of an ordinance updating the village’s income tax ordinance to include state approved modifications.
The Ohio Income Tax Department recently approved a bill that changes several state regulations including a uniform return date of income taxes on April 15, redefines qualifying wages that can be taxed and revises the review procedures.
•Approved transfers of: $3,500 to the park debt fund from the income tax fund; and $36.44 to the cemetery operating fund from the general fund.
•Heard Diller report that Dec. 10 is the last day village employees will collect leaves from curbs.[[In-content Ad]]
