FORT RECOVERY — Construction of new sidewalks on Harrison and West Milligan streets here can begin.

Village council members accepted a $27,813.50 bid from B&L Construction of St. Henry, Ohio, for the sidewalk project at their meeting Monday night.

This bid, the only one submitted to the village, is less than the $28,724 project cost estimate.

After the sidewalks are constructed, village employees will install street lights in these areas, Fort Recovery village administrator Randy Diller said this morning.

The project is expected to be completed by Monday, Sept. 20, Diller added.

In other business, the council approved the second reading of a resolution to place a five-year renewal request for the village’s tax levy on the November election ballot.

The tax levy will raise approximately $45,000 a year for stormwater projects in the village, Diller said.

Also Monday, council members:

•Heard Fort Recovery Police Chief Maggie Hartings report the National Association of Town Watch sponsored National Night Out was rescheduled to Sunday, July 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. (Ohio time).

Residents of the Fort Recovery School District are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Residents also are invited to attend a community pool party, free of charge, at the Ambassador Pool in Fort Recovery.

•Approved the hiring of Jared Laux as a full-time police officer for the village. Laux recently completed his six-month probationary period as a full-time officer.

•Accepted the resignation of Councilman Doug Westgerdes, effective Aug. 1. He is resigning from his seat because he is moving out of town.

Anyone interested in the position can contact Diller or Fort Recovery Mayor Roger Broerman. The council will select Westgerdes’ replacement.

•Approved three resolutions to transfer $4,500 to the water bond retirement fund from the village’s water revenue fund, $3,500 to the industrial park debt service fund from the income tax fund and $52.40 to the cemetery operations fund from the general fund.[[In-content Ad]]
