FORT RECOVERY - The Indians left little to the imagination.
Opening the 2006-07 boys basketball season on its home floor, Fort Recovery dominated the opening quarter. It pushed out to a 20-point lead at the half and clobbered the Kalida Wildcats 67-42.
Freshman Greg Kahlig turned in an outstanding high-school debut in leading the Indians, who went 7-4 in non-conference action a year ago. He was one of three Tribe players to reach double figures, scoring a game-high 17 points. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Kahlig's effort paced Fort Recovery, which took control early and never let go. The Indians didn't fool around with visiting Kalida, ripping out to a 20-4 lead after the opening eight minutes. They were up 34-14 at halftime and outscored the Wildcats in every quarter.
Junior Bobby Rammel was right behind Kahlig with 16 points and six rebounds. He also led the Tribe with five steals.
Sophomore point guard Toby Metzger added 11 points and five rebounds to go along with a game-high six assists. Wes Kahlig scored eight points
The Indians shot 41 percent compared to 31 for Kalida. They scored twice as many points at the free-throw line - 14-7 - and committed just nine turnovers to the Wildcats' 18.
Aaron VonderEmbse topped the Kalida squad in both points and rebounds with nine apiece. Justin Kahle added seven points.
The evening did not go as well for the Fort Recovery junior varsity team, which lost 37-33 to the Wildcats.
Wes Kahlig led the JV Indians with 12 points.[[In-content Ad]]
