Fort slams 'Skins

FRHS girls basketball

ST. HENRY, Ohio - Chelsea Leuthold staked the Tribe to an 18-1 lead. The remaining Indians took care of the rest.

Leuthold racked up 14 points in the first five minutes Thursday as she led the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team to a 70-36 slaughter of the St. Henry Redskins.

The Indians (13-3, 6-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) opened a 6-0 lead with free throws from Nicole Dilworth, Leuthold and Nicole Pottkotter. From there Leuthold took over.

Her first 3-pointer, on an assist from Dilworth, gave Fort Recovery a 9-0 lead. St. Henry got on the board with a Kenzie Bruggeman free throw, but Leuthold responded with another triple off of a Pottkotter assist. She was fouled on the shot and converted the free throw for a four-point play.

The senior added a jumper and another 3-pointer that gave the Indians an 18-1 lead with 2:27 still remaining in the first quarter.

Leuthold finished with 19 points in just 18 minutes and hit four 3-pointers. She also had seven rebounds and five steals.

Pottkotter added a double-double with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 10 rebounds. She also had a team-high four assists.

Holly Brunswick scored 11 points and Olivia Thien finished with seven rebounds.

The Tribe shot 15-of-17 from the free-throw line against St. Henry (9-8, 2-5 MAC), which is led by former FRHS coach Jeff Roessner. It left 48-17 at halftime and was up by 39 heading into the final quarter.

Bruggeman scored 14 points to lead the Redskins, who turned the ball over 20 times, but shot just 5-of-20 from the field. She also had six rebounds.

Olivia Hart had nine points, five rebounds and four assists for St. Henry, which turned the ball over 20 times and finished 13-of-47 (28 percent) from the field.

Junior varsity

Fort Recovery dominated the first three quarters on the way to topping the Redskins 57-29.

Kylie Kahlig and Kelly Nietfeld each had 12 points for the Indians, who led by 36 after three quarters. Chelsea Pottkotter added 10 points, and Christen Wendel totaled five rebounds.

Kylie Koesters scored 13 points to lead St. Henry. Rachel Lefeld had six points.[[In-content Ad]]
