UNION CITY - Six hits were enough to produce double-digit runs and a second Tribe win.
Fort Recovery High School's baseball team had nearly twice as many runs as hits, breaking open Thursday's game with a six-run fifth inning in an 11-1 victory over the Union City Indians.
Clint Tobe highlighted the effort with a home run. Frank Thien had two singles and two runs, and Bobby Ramel finished with a single, a run and an RBI.
Curt Heitkamp picked up the win for the Indians (2-0), tossing 3 1/3 shutout innings. He did not allow a hit, and struck out five batters.
A.J. Backs added four strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings, and Cody Fiely tossed one scoreless inning of relief.
Redskins roll in 8th
The Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team gave up five runs in the eighth inning to fall 9-4 to the Fort Loramie Redskins.
The Tribe (0-1) fell behind 4-3 in the fifth inning, but evened the score in the sixth before falling in the first extra frame.
Shelby Brunswick took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits and six walks in five innings.
Kendra Brunswick doubled and scored a run, and Lorraine Shier also had a double. Carly Staugler finished with a single and a run.
Tribe tops three
FORT RECOVERY - Aaron Vagedes racked up three victories Thursday as the Fort Recovery Middle School track teams each topped Franklin Monroe, Parkway and New Knoxville.
Vagedes paced the Indian boys by taking first place in the 200-meter dash (26.3 seconds), 400 dash (59.6) and long jump (17 feet, 1 inch). Derek Sutter added wins in the 800 run (2-minutes, 40.1 seconds) and 1,600 run (5:40.4).
Kylie Kahlig powered the girls team with winning efforts in the 400 dash (1:08.4) and shot put (30 feet, 3 inches). Christen Wednel (1,600 run), Julie Kahlig (800 run) and and Becca Tobe (high jump) added victories for the girls team.
Sam Muhlenkamp (high jump) and Ryan Gaerke (long jump) were the other winners for the boys team.[[In-content Ad]]
