FRHS softball
PITSBURG, Ohio - Fort Recovery's softball team turned in back-to-back wins for the first time this season when it took Saturday's opening game, but couldn't keep the momentum rolling.
The Indians (3-6) followed Friday night's win over Botkins with an 18-3 victory in Saturday's first game against the host Franklin Monroe Jets. But they dropped game two, 5-4.
The opener was tied 2-2 after two innings before Fort Recovery scored three times in the fourth to take the lead for good. The Tribe added a six-run fifth and a seven-run seventh to pull away.
Heather Schmackers had the biggest hit of the day, picking up all four of her RBIs on a grand slam. Val Fortkamp had four hits, including a double and a triple, and also drove in two runs, scored once and stole a base.
Kyla Metzger had three hits, three runs and two RBIs, and Sandra Sudhoff and Lauren Wenning added three runs apiece. Sudhoff, Lori Osterholt and Kinsey Wenning each drove in two runs.
Kinsey Wenning also took the win as just one of the three runs against her was earned. She gave up two hits and six walks while striking out two.
Beth May took the game-two defeat as Franklin Monroe scored in the bottom of the seventh after the Indians posted three runs to tie the game in the top of the inning. None of the five runs against her were earned as Fort Recovery committed seven errors.
Fortkamp again was key to the offense with three hits and a run. Ashley Grube had a double, an RBI and a run, and Joanna Snyder finished with two hits, one run and one RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
