Fort stays perfect in MAC

VERSAILLES, Ohio - The Tribe's balance overcame a big effort from Versailles' star.

With three players in double figures and seven scoring points from the free-throw line Monday, the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team topped Versailles despite 25 points and 14 rebounds from Megan Campbell.

The Indians, who outscored Versailles 23-15 at the foul line to win despite shooting just 34 percent from the field, trailed by one with 5:01 to play in the third quarter. But they went on a 10-2 run with back-to-back 3-pointers from Nicole Pottkotter and Holly Brunswick followed by consecutive hoops by Chelsea Leuthold.

They never trailed again and extended their advantage to as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Fort Recovery improved to 7-2 overall with the victory and is one of just two undefeated teams in the Midwest Athletic Conference. They are tied for the league lead with Marion Local.

Leuthold paced the Indians with 14 points, including a 4-of-5 effort from the foul line. She also shared the team rebounding lead with Nicole Pottkotter with six.

Nicole Dilworth hit 8-of-10 from the line and finished with 12 points to go along with three assists and four steals. Brunswick went 5-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 from 3-point range for 12 points.

Along with her rebounding effort, Pottkotter had five steals, three assists and two blocks.

Campbell, who will play volleyball next year for the University of Dayton, dominated the inside for Versailles as she shot 10-of-15. Five of her rebounds came on the offensive end, and she also contributed six blocks and three steals.

Bethany Adams totaled nine points, and Susan Berger added eight. Lauren Rindler had five rebounds and three assists.

Junior varsity

Fort Recovery dominated the second half on the way to a 51-34 victory over the Tigers.

Chelsea Pottkotter came off the bench and scored 13 points in 13 minutes for the Indians, who outscored Versailles 29-12 in the second half. Kylie Kahlig had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and a block, and Kelly Nietfeld contributed eight points, six rebounds and three steals.

Sam Harshbarger had 10 points to pace the Tigers. Kaylee Trump added eight points and three boards.[[In-content Ad]]
