Fort stumbles in second half (02/23/04)

A night after rallying from a 14-point deficit against Coldwater the Fort Recovery boys basketball team stumbled down the stretch in a 67-64 loss to the Spencerville Bearcats.
The Indians (6-13) led by eight at halftime and still held a 54-50 advantage heading into the final period. However, they could not overcome a 36-percent shooting effort in the second half as Spencerville outscored them 17-10 in the final period.
Fort Recovery grabbed the lead by shooting 52 percent in the first half.
Dusty Tobe paced the Tribe with 17 points. He also had a team-high six rebounds.
C.J. Tobe followed with 15 points, and Tyler Wuebker reached double figures with 11 points. Greg Faller and Sean Kahlig each had eight.
Ryan Staugler finished with five rebounds and three assists, and Faller had six assists.
John Bihn, who led the Indians with 24 points in a win over Coldwater Friday, did not play in the game. He has been suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules.
Josiah Stober carried Spencerville with 24 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. He added three assists and did plenty of his damage at the foul line, hitting 14-of-16 free throws as the Bearcats finished 20-of-29.
Fort Recovery went 12-for-19 from the free-throw line.
Following Stober were Logan Nourse with 13 points and Brent Cook with 11. Lucas Nourse grabbed seven rebounds, and Kyle Brenneman dished out four assists.
The Indians will host Minster Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Junior varsity
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team was never close in a 72-49 loss to Spencerville Saturday.
The Tribe gave up 42 first-half points and trailed by 20 at the intermission. Spencerville dominated the game thanks to a 57 percent shooting effort.
Seth Bihn paced the Indians with 16 points. Todd Post finished with 11, and Stan Roessner added 10.
Aaron Kahlig had team bests of five rebounds and four assists.
Luke Moorman had 17 points, eight assists and three steals, all team highs. T.C. Horner had 15 points and eight rebounds, leading the Bearcats to a 32-20 advantage on the glass.
