FORT RECOVERY — The purchase of a used leaf vacuum was approved here Monday.

Fort Recovery Village Council members approved th $6,000 purchase of a 1996 leaf vac from Best Equipment of Indianapolis. This purchase replaces the village’s current leaf vac, which was donated, said Fort Recovery village administrator Randy Diller.

Also Monday, Diller told the council about a planned upgrade to the computer system at the Fort Recovery Police Department.

The upgrade will be funded by a $1,447 Law Enforcement Block Grant from the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services. The village must pay a $361 grant match.

The department’s computers are currently equipped with Windows 98 which is not compatible with the state’s computer systems, Diller said. This makes it difficult for Fort Recovery police to send reports electronically to the state, he added.

In other business, council members recommended two changes to the village’s wage ordinance.

The council recommended that the village’s mileage reimbursement rate be updated yearly according to the rate set by the Internal Revenue Service.

This change will increase the rate to 37.5 cents a mile from the village’s current rate of 25 cents a mile. The 2004 IRS standard mileage rate is 37.5 cents a mile.

Also, the council recommended that the village pay employees who must serve jury duty.

Diller said that the village currently doesn’t pay employees for days they can’t work because of jury duty. He said that two village employees have missed work because of jury duty this year.

Diller said Monday that he will rewrite the village’s wage ordinance with these changes and submit it to the council for approval at the Monday, Nov. 15 meeting.

If approved, the changes will be effective on Jan. 1, 2005.

Also Monday, council members approved the first reading of an ordinance updating the village’s income tax ordinance to include state approved modifications.

The Ohio Income Tax Department recently approved a bill that changes several state regulations. The bill set a uniform return date of income taxes on April 15, redefined qualifying wages that can be taxed and revised the review procedures.[[In-content Ad]]
