FORT RECOVERY — New Bremen shot just 23 percent and still had a chance for a victory. But the Indians weren’t about to let another team pull off late heroics against them.
Fort Recovery, which has won games on last second shots each of the last two weeks, made enough free throws in the final minute and a half to earn a 54-47 victory over the visiting Cardinals.
The game was close most of the way, with Fort Recovery (11-5, 4-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) pulling ahead by seven at the end of the third quarter. The lead expanded to nine points before New Bremen came surging back.
The Cardinals (10-4, 2-3 MAC) went on a 13-4 run, pulling to within two points on a free throw by Curt Eilerman with 1:28 to play. But they never scored again while Sean Kahlig hit two free throws and Greg Faller, Tyler Wuebker and Todd Post each added one for the Indians.
Kahlig paced the Tribe with 15 points, doing most of his damage with a 9-of-15 effort at the foul line. Travis VanSkyock and Dusty Tobe each added 10 points for the Tribe. VanSkyock had nine rebounds, and Clint Tobe added seven while scoring seven points. Faller and Wuebker each dished out four assists.
Troy Lammers was the only New Bremen player in double figures as he finished with 13 points. Scott Steineman, Justin Brown and Allan Webster each added seven points, and Eilerman had six. Eilerman had seven rebounds, and Lammers chipped in five. Scott Brackman added seven steals and five assists.
