ANSONIA, Ohio - The Indians showed again Monday why the first round of the sectional tournament looks so good for them.
Fort Recovery High School's volleyball team earned another non-conference win, defeating the Ansonia Tigers 25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 25-15.
The victory pushed the Tribe to 10-10 overall, and they are 9-3 against non-Midwest Athletic Conference opponents. That bodes well for their tournament opener at New Bremen, where they will play the only non-MAC team in the draw - Lima Perry - in the opening round Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m.
Nicole Pottkotter turned in a mammoth effort in Monday's win over the Tigers, leading the Indians with 22 assists and 21 points. She also reached double digits with 10 digs.
Joanna Snyder totaled 12 digs, 10 kills and eight points. Kinsey Wenning had 12 kills, Anne Koesters notched nine blocks and Kelly Sudhoff had six blocks.
Fort Recovery's match against Lima Perry (6-12) will be the first of two semifinal contests Tuesday, Oct. 16, with Minster (12-7) and New Knoxville (12-7) to follow at 7:30 p.m.
Sectional championship matches will be Saturday, Oct. 20, with the Fort Recovery/Perry winner meeting Division IV No. 1 Marion Local (19-1) at 2 p.m. No. 6 New Bremen (14-3) will await the Minster/New Knoxville winner in the other title match at 3:30 p.m.
