Fort wins MAC opener (12/10/07)

FORT RECOVERY - The Indians got off to a successful start in their quest for the Midwest Athletic Conference title.

In its first MAC contest of the season, Fort Recovery's boys basketball team stayed in control most of the way Friday for a 56-41 victory over the Versailles Tigers.

Versailles (1-3, 0-1 MAC) led briefly in the game, holding the advantage for less than two minutes in the second quarter. Clint Tobe's jumper with 4:29 remaining in the opening half put the Indians ahead for good and they pulled away with a 6-0 burst in the fourth.

Greg Kahlig, who led all scorers with 16 points, had four during the spurt that pushed the Tribe to a 46-34 lead. It remained up by double digits the rest of the way.

Bobby Rammel also reached double figures with 15 points, and Kahlig added eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks. Clint Tobe scored nine points, and Toby Metzger had seven rebounds and five assists.

Ian Nisonger scored 12 points to lead Versailles while Jon Richard added eight points and seven rebounds. Bryant Ahrens grabbed six rebounds, and Brad Selhorst had three assists.

Fort Recovery (3-1, 1-0 MAC) dominated the glass 30-17 in the victory, and forced 21 turnovers while committing just 10.

Junior varsity

Everything unraveled for the Indians in the fourth quarter as Versailles outscored them 19-3 to rally for a 42-30 victory.

Zac Barlage and Wes Drees each scored 17 points for the Tigers, who trailed by three at halftime. Barlage and Max Kindell had seven rebounds apiece.

Josh Wendel shot 5-of-7 from the field to score team points for Fort Recovery. Craig Tobe added five points and eight rebounds, and Matt Braun had five steals.[[In-content Ad]]
