Fort workers to receive pay raise (11/22/05)

Fort Recovery Village Council

By By MARY ANN LEWIS-

FORT RECOVERY — Employees here will be getting a little more in their paychecks next year.

The Fort Recovery Council Monday night approved the first reading of an ordinance providing a 3.5 percent increase in all salaries for village employees as well as elected officials.

Receiving the increase will be all hourly employees as well as Janet McCain, the village clerk treasurer.

Council members will not be receiving the increase, but an ordinance had to be passed stating that. Council members will continue to be paid $1,200 annually and mayor Roger Broerman’s salary will also remain the same at $3,500 annually.

Village attorney Dave Bruns, also received the increase and that puts his annual salary at $8,000.

In other business Monday, the council heard town administrator Randy Diller give an update of ongoing projects, including the Buck Ditch storm sewer replacement project.

Diller said the existing tile has been videotaped and all incoming taps have been located.

“There were no surprises,” Diller told the council. “The only surprise was that it was as straight as it was.”

Choice One Engineers will complete the topographic work and preliminary engineering and plans call for placing the project out for bids by the end of the year.

“I hope to have plans ready by the next meeting,” Diller said.

In other business Monday night the council:

•Heard Diller say that the village street sweeper was no longer usable and that council should consider the purchase of another one. New sweepers sell for about $90,000, he said, while a used one can be purchased for about $40,000.

“It’s going to cost about $3,000 to fix this one,” he said, “and it’s only worth about $5,000.”

•Approved the transfer of $1,835.53 from water revenue to the water debt fund; $3,500 from Income Tax to the Industrial Park debt; $12,000 from Income Tax to the park recreation fund; and $12,000 from Income Tax to the swimming pool fund.

•Reminded residents that the town hall will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.[[In-content Ad]]
