Fort's Gaerke gets career-high in kills (10/04/2008)

Tiff Gaerke recorded double-digit kills in every match for the University of Dayton volleyball team at the UAlbany Invitational.

The 2007 Fort Recovery High School graduate capped her tournament effort with a career-high 14 kills Sept. 27 for the Flyers against the host Great Danes. She also had four digs in the three-game defeat.

The sophomore opened the tournament with 13 kills, seven digs, one assist and one block in a 25-13, 25-17, 25-18 slaughter of Long Island. She also had 10 kills, two blocks and two digs as Dayton fell in three games to Yale.

Gaerke is the No. 4 attacker for the Flyers so far this season with 140 kills. She also has 37 digs, 29 blocks and four assists.

Amanda Johnson

Jay County - 2008

Finished 136th for the Indiana Wesleyan women's cross country team at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted Sept. 27 by the University of Minnesota.

Johnson completed the course, which was 6 kilometers instead of the usual 5, in 26-minutes, three seconds. The Wildcats finished ninth out of 24 teams.

Jill Roughia

Jay County - 2005

Also competed in the Roy Griak Invitational for the Huntington University women's cross country team.

Roughia finished 40 seconds behind her former teammate, placing 172nd in 26:43. She was the No. 3 runner for the Foresters.

Ian Thomas

Jay County - 2005

Helped the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's cross country team to an 11th-place finish Sept. 27 at the 25-team Otterbein Invitational.

Ian Thomas turned in the No. 2 time for the Engineers, completing the race in 62nd place with a time of 26:37.

Mitchell Thomas finished 20 spots behind his twin brother in 26:57.
