Foundation thanks its contributors
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
The Jay County Hospital Foundation recently concluded its inaugural fundraising appeal. Thanks to the generosity of many individuals, businesses and organizations in Jay County, the hospital foundation was successful in raising sufficient funds to provide the financial support necessary to start the Wellness In Schools (WINS) program.
As a result of the collaborative effort of Jay County Hospital employees Carrie Wilcox and Julayne Ross and the administration and teachers at Jay County High School, the members of the freshman class, as part of the Freshman Academy, are being educated about the importance of healthy nutrition and lifestyles.
The Jay County Hospital Foundation is hopeful that the WINS program will become a staple of the Freshman Academy in years to come and will contribute to reducing the health issues resulting from childhood obesity.
We want to thank the members of our cabinet: Ken and Janet Bantz, Pastor Darrell Borders, Donna Haggenjos, Larry and Alice Paxson, Kristin Schoenlein and John Young, who helped to organize this year's fundraising appeal and the solicitors who volunteered their time to make personal contacts with potential donors.
We also want to thank Jay County Hospital CEO Joe Johnston and Jay County Hospital Foundation Director Pam Bennett for their support and encouragement during this year's appeal.
But most of all, we again want to thank all those who financially supported this year's appeal.
Once again, our citizens, businesses and organizations have confirmed the charitable nature of those who make their home in Jay County.

To the editor:
This week President Obama promises to get the Health Care Reform Bill passed using the simple vote majority (re-named to tame down the real name, the Nuclear Option).
We will have to wait and see, I guess.
A few words to contemplate for our two Indiana senators - Mr. Lugar and Mr. Bayh.
Mr. Bayh says he is bowing out of the Senate due to great disappointment in the "bickering in Congress," and that he is against the things happening in Washington.
I e-mailed Mr. Bayh to let him know how I felt about his voting record.
As you can imagine, I let him know I did not appreciate his voting for the stimulus, T.A.R.P., and the health reform bill.
I immediately received an answer thanking me for contacting him and for standing with Mr. Bayh and the Democratic Party on these issues in Congress.
Can you imagine that?
Well, Mr. Bayh, we will see if you are against all the spending in Congress by seeing how you are going to vote on the health reform bil before you leave Washington, won't we?
Do the right thing.
Vote against this massive spending bill and show us you truly are against high spending in Washington.
Otherwise it was, and is, all for show what you said a few weeks ago when you announced that you would not run for the Senate again this year.
