ROCKFORD, Ohio - Defense can work wonders.

Fort Recovery's boys basketball team locked down the Parkway Panthers Friday, especially in the second quarter, limiting them to 27 percent shooting and forcing 20 turnovers in a 55-30 victory Friday night. The win improved the Indians to 11-8 overall, guaranteeing them a winning season.

The host Panthers (5-13, 1-7 Midwest Athletic Conference) trailed just 13-10 after the opening period. But after allowing 50 percent shooting (5-of-10) in that first quarter, Fort Recovery put the clamps on.

Parkway went without a field goal in the second period, shooting 0-for-7 and getting its only points on a pair of Gregory Robertson free throws with 54 seconds left. In the meantime, Bobby Rammel, Clint Tobe, Tony Diller and Frank Thien each had hoops as part of a 12-0 run which put the Tribe in control for good.

Fort Recovery's lead was never fewer than 13 points in the second half, and ballooned to as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter.

Tobe paced the Indians, who finished with four MAC wins after going 0-9 in the league a year ago, with 12 points. Aaron Kahlig joined him in double figures with 11 points, and Diller and Rammel each scored nine. Toby Metzger chipped in eight points to go along with game highs of six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Robertson's eight points were the team-high for Parkway.

The junior varsity Indians got 12 points from Curt Heitkamp, 11 by Cody Fiely and 10 by Josh Wendel in a 44-41 victory.[[In-content Ad]]
