FR cross country coaches thank supporters (11/01/05)
To the editor:
This past Saturday (Oct. 29), our Fort Recovery High School girls cross-country team ran at the regional meet in Troy for the first time since 1999.
It was a great accomplishment for not only the runners, but also the school. Our team finished sixth out of 16 schools, which left us just short of continuing the season at the state competition (since only the top four teams in each region move on to the next level).
As a coach I know many people don’t go to cross-country meets, but on Saturday I was floored with the level of support our team received from the community. It still was not like a football game where you may have hundreds (or thousands) of people attend, but our fan base for the regional race did not go unnoticed. I had coaches from other schools comment on how great our community looked. Our fans rivaled those of other perennial powerhouses like Minster, Versailles, and Fort Loramie. In fact, our fans were the only group that broke down and started singing the fight song just before the race (Fort Recovery, Fort Recovery, Famous in the past ...)!
I wanted to make sure I sent on my sincere thanks to all of those who helped support us. I tried to say something to everyone at the race, but I know that there are more than a few I did not get a chance to thank. We may have not made it to state this year, but our girls are determined to make it their goal next year! Having the community behind us means a great deal to us coaches, but words cannot explain how much it means to our athletes. All you had to do was see the smile on their faces when they saw everyone that showed up to watch the race!
Thank You!

Great support
To the editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the local industries that support the youth activities and leagues through the Jay Community Center.
It is really great that these industries help out and support the youth of this community, by sponsoring the leagues for tee-ball and also for the flag football leagues.
Sports help our children to learn good teamwork skills and also get exercise and have fun while doing it. A big thank you goes out to McDonald’s and also FCC (Indiana) for sponsoring these leagues and all the other industries that help and sponsor our youth in their athletic endeavors.
