FR gets Osterholt 100th win in title game (05/14/08)

FRHS softball

NEW BREMEN, Ohio - The Indians have won less than 25 percent of their regular-season games. But in the tournament, they are perfect.

Coach Marie Osterholt reached a career milestone as the Fort Recovery High School softball team upset the St. Henry Redskins 2-1 in the Division IV sectional championship game Tuesday at New Bremen.

The victory over the top-seeded Redskins (9-9) was the 100th of Osterholt's career. The Indians are 0-7 this year in the Midwest Athletic Conference, but have defeated MAC foes Marion Local and St. Henry en route to the sectional crown.

Fort Recovery (7-16) trailed the Redskins, who defeated the Indians 6-0 on April 24, 1-0 through four innings before tying the score in the fifth. They added their second run in the sixth inning, and Kinsey Wenning made it stand up.

Wenning earned the victory, allowing the single run on three hits and a walk. She struck out five batters.

Carla Guggenbiller finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, and LeAnne Tobin singled and scored a run. Val Fortkamp scored once and had a stolen base.

The Tribe advances to the district semifinal round to take on Parkway or New Bremen Tuesday at New Bremen at 5 p.m.
