A former Indian is continuing to improve as she works her way into a new role.
Nicole Pottkotter, Fort Recovery High School class of 2010, turned in a career-high eight kills Saturday in the Ohio Northern University volleyball team’s five-game loss to Alma.
Pottkotter, who played setter for the Polar Bears last season before moving to outside hitter this year, also had five digs and an assist against Alma in the Great Lakes Regional Challenge hosted by Wittenberg. She totaled five kills, two digs and an assist in a loss Friday to NCAA Division III No. 13 Hope, and three kills and two digs in a loss to top-rated Calvin.
The sophomore totaled five kills in the lone victory of the weekend for ONU (5-7), a 25-15, 25-21, 25-15 triumph over Denison.
For the season, Pottkotter has 38 kills, 12 digs, five blocks and two assists.
Abby Denney
Jay County – 2011
Turned in the top score for the Indiana University East women’s golf team Saturday at the Manchester College Fall Invitational.
Denney was the only IU-East player to break 100, shooting 48 on the back nine at Honeywell Golf Course for a 98. She finished 28th as the Red Wolves were last in the 11-team tournament.
The freshman also shot 101 Monday for IU-East as it placed third out of three squads at the Defiance College Invitational.
Maddie Moore
S. Adams – 2009
Assisted on a goal Tuesday for the Bluffton University women’s soccer team in its 3-0 victory over Ohio Christian.
Moore helped the Beavers put the game away 18 minutes into the second half when she sent a pass to Taylor Fultz, who scored to give Bluffton its 3-0 lead. She had two shots, including one on goal, as the Beavers improved to 3-1-1.
Moore also had one shot on goal in Bluffton’s 1-1 tie Saturday with Indiana Tech.
Frank Thien
Ft. Recovery – 2009
Caught a pair of passes Saturday for the NCAA Division III No. 12 Ohio Northern University football team as it knocked off visiting Otterbein 34-33 in overtime.
Both of Thien’s receptions from quarterback Tyler Rue were in the third quarter, including a 12-yard catch during a drive that resulted in a field goal. His other reception went for six yards.
The Polar Bears scored first in overtime and picked up the win when Otterbein failed on a two-point conversion attempt.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Ran for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s cross country team Saturday as it placed third out of seven teams at the Cedarville Friendship Invitational.
Johnson turned in the No. 7 time for the Wildcats in 20 minutes, 12 seconds. She finished 31st overall.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Made his “A” team debut for the Indiana University East men’s golf team at the Sept. 15 Kisor Classic hosted by Ohio Dominican.
Houck turned in a day-two 98 to finish at 179 overall. He placed 43rd in the tournament.
Megan Adams
Jay County – 2008
Played for the Huntington University women’s tennis team in a 9-0 loss Tuesday to Marian.
Adams fought back in the second set against Olivia Pursell to avoid a shutout, falling 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. The loss dropped the Foresters to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the Mid-Central Conference.[[In-content Ad]]
