FR rally falls short (05/07/08)
FRHS baseball
FORT RECOVERY - The Indians rallied, but couldn't get the key hit they needed.
After trailing 5-0, the Fort Recovery High School baseball team pulled to within two and loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. But the New Bremen Cardinals were able to hold on and defeat the Tribe 5-3.
The Indians were down by five through four innings, but scored once in the fifth and twice in the seventh. They loaded the bases, likely needing just a hit to tie the game, but Travis Hart struck out swinging to end the game.
Curt Heitkamp suffered the defeat, giving up five runs on six hits and a walk in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out four batters.
Frank Thien and A.J. Backs combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Backs had three strikeouts.
Bobby Rammel led the Tribe offense, going 2-for-2 with a double and two runs. Heitkamp added two hits and a run, and Thien and Cody Fiely had two hits apiece.
