ST. MARYS, Ohio - The host Roughriders had a chance to take down Fort Recovery in a third game. So did the Parkway Panthers.
The Tribe rejected them both.
The Indians won back-to-back three-game matches Saturday, including a 27-25, 12-25, 25-23 thriller over Parkway in the championship, to win the St. Marys Invitational title.
Their other wins came 25-22, 23-25, 25-15 over Memorial (St. Marys) and 25-4, 25-8 over Bethel.
Senior Nicole Pottkotter's efforts keyed the two wins as she racked up a combined 32 kills against the Roughriders and Panthers. She also had seven blocks against Parkway, four blocks against St. Marys and finished the tournament with a total of 36 assists.
Emily May totaled 29 digs and eight points in the championship match. Carly Staugler had 15 points, and Alyssa Brackman finished with 15 digs.
Against St. Marys, May added 16 digs and 10 points while Staugler had 22 assists and seven points. Holly Brunswick chipped in 10 kills.
Staugler also led the Tribe against Bethel - the Indians (4-1) scored the first 11 points to open the match - with 13 points, including four aces, eight assists and three digs. May totaled 10 points and six digs, and Brunswick had five kills.
Junior varsity
MINSTER, Ohio - The Indians settled for a split, defeating the Russia Raiders 26-24, 25-17 after falling 25-15, 22-25, 25-21 in the first half of the double-header to the Minster Wildcats.
Kayla Kahlig paced the victory for Fort Recovery (2-2) with 11 assists and 10 points. Abby Backs had 11 digs, and Holly Thien added four kills.
Backs notched 13 digs and nine points in the loss to Minster. Kahlig put up 15 assists, and Thien had eight kills.[[In-content Ad]]
