Free walk at state parks set Saturday (09/07/06)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

On Saturday at 10 a.m., INShape Indiana participants will be granted free admission to a state park or reservoir and can take part in a 2-3 mile walk. I will be leading the walk at Oubache State Park near Bluffton and would love for you to join me. T-shirts will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. For more details, to register for INShape Indiana, and/or to print your DNR Day coupe for free admission, please visit www.inshape.in.gov.

The Governor's Council for Physical Fitness & Sports has set a goal for each county and the goal for Jay County is to have at least 347 residents registered on INShape Indiana. Let's meet this goal by the end of this month. If you haven't registered yet, go online. There are all kinds of great fitness, health, nutrition and smoking cessation resources available on the site.

Speaking of health right here in our own backyard, are you looking for some places this fall to walk in Jay County? You can stop by one of the following locations to pick up your copy of the INShape Jay County Walking and Running Guide (with over 15 different outside routes, plus indoor facilities to walk in), provided by the INShape Jay County Committee.

The guide is available at Bryant Post Office, Clear Chiropractic, Curves, Dunkirk Post Office, Dunkirk Library, Family Practice of Jay County, Jay Community Center, Jay County Public Library, John Jay Center for Learning, Spaulding Chiropractic, West Jay Community Center and Vormohr Medical Center.

For more information, contact the Jay Community Center at (260) 726-6477 or at www.jaycc.org.

Take a hike for health.

Fest is back

To the editor:

Just in case you have not seen the posters or heard the radio ads, Gospel Fest is back. God has opened the door for a wonderful blessing through the Jay County Ministerial Association for all of the Jayland area. Gospel Fest was a fixture in the county for many years, but interest has fallen and no event was planned for this year. However, a generous donor has provided the necessary funds for a gospel sing still including local talent but now featuring an extremely popular and successful national Southern Gospel ministry called Hope's Call.

So Gospel Fest is back. It's back with a new name, a new time, a new format and some new music but with the same old price. It's free. No longer an all-day affair, the Jayland Harvest Gospel Fest will be held Saturday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Farmer's Building at the Jay County Fairgrounds. The event will include The Youngs, The Blair Family and The Christianaires and will feature the highly acclaimed and award winning Hope's Call.

All kinds of entertainment are available in today's world, but a gospel sing like this can have an actual impact on lives. We want to encourage everyone to attend because God's word will be shared in testimony and song. Everyone involved sincerely hopes to edify believers and share Jesus with the lost. It's important for believers to remember that there is joy in Christ. One way to share that joy with others is by demonstrating that we can have fun without compromising our faith. We can have the kind of fun on Saturday we don't have to be ashamed of on Sunday.

Bring your family, your church and maybe a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of community-wide fellowship, food and fun.

God Bless,

Chad Young, The Youngs, and Terry Bye, Jay County Ministerial Association (New Covenant Fellowship Church)[[In-content Ad]]
