FRHS cross country

SPENCERVILLE, Ohio - Fort Recovery High School's girls cross country team placed four runners in the top 20 Saturday in a third-place finish at the Spencerville Bearcat Invitational.

The Indians (82), runner-up Ottoville (41) and the champion host Bearcats (30) filled 17 of the top 20 positions in the Red Division. Covington was a distant fourth with 123 in the eight-team field.

Fort Recovery's boys finished ahead of just one team, placing 10th out of 11 with 244 points. They were ahead of Kalida (257) while Lehman Catholic won with 32.

Senior Tina Roessner powered the FRHS girls team (20-13), posting its lone top-10 finish. She was one of seven runners to break the 21-minute mark, placing seventh in 20-minutes, 31.4 seconds.

Sophomore Alexis Sutter was next for the Indians, finishing 14th in 22:03, less than a second ahead oc Spencerville's Cortney Miller. Abby Huelskamp was 18th in 22:29, and Nicole Heitkamp followed in 19th with a time of 22:46.

Amber Heitkamp capped the Tribe's team score in 27th at 23:11.

Ryan Heitkamp set the pace for the Fort Recovery boys (5-39) in 23rd place with a time of 18:50. The only other Indian to crack the top 50 was Caleb Heitkamp in 37th at 19:31.

Mathias Koester (76th - 21:40), Zach Guggenbiller (78th - 22:05) and Adam Pohl (83rd - 22:47) followed the Heitkamps.

Middle school

Fort Recovery's boys scored 120 points to finish third out of 20 teams behind Shawnee (97) and Covington (113). The girls team was sixth out of 17 at 195 while West Liberty-Salem won with 45.

A pair of Indian boys made the top 10, with Josh Pohl seventh in 11:42 and Nathan Fullenkamp 10 seconds behind him in ninth place. Derek Sutter completed the race in 12:14 for 13th place, Calvin Kaiser finished 45th in 13:13 and Marshal Hull was 53rd in 13:22.

Abby May was 10th in 13:31 to lead the FRMS girls, and Samantha Tobe was 14th at 13:39. Jessica Vogel finished 37th in 14:23, Elle Sutter turned in a time of 14:53 for 57th and Emily Kahlig was 128th at 16:54.[[In-content Ad]]
