FRHS wins finale (02/11/08)

FRHS girls basketball

ROCKFORD, Ohio - The 3-point shot hasn't been much of a weapon for the Indians this season. But it was there for them when they needed it Saturday.

Nicole Pottkotter and Kendra Brunswick hit key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team defeated the host Parkway Panthers 51-42 in the final game of the regular season.

The victory lifted the Tribe to 14-6 on the year, completing a fifth straight winning season. One more victory would push the Indians to the 15-win plateau for the seventh time since 2000.

Fort Recovery will play for the sectional championship Saturday against either New Knoxville or Marion Local at Wapakoneta at 6:15 p.m.

With 5:47 left in the game Saturday, Parkway (2-18) pulled within two points on a 3-pointer by Tara Luth. But the Tribe responded with a couple of triples to cushion its lead again.

Nicole Pottkotter buried the first 3-pointer for Fort Recovery, which averages fewer than eight attempts per game from long distance. Her shot fell through at the 5:26 mark.

Kendra Brunswick missed a 3-pointer on the next FRHS possession, but she tried again the next time down the floor and buried the shot for a 45-37 Indian lead with 3:48 to play. The advantage never slipped below five points the rest of the way.

Pottkotter racked up 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-6 from long distance, to lead Fort Recovery. Kindsey Wenning was 4-of-4 from the field and 5-of-6 at the line for 13 points, and Chelsey Leuthold joined them in double figures with 10.

Snyder added nine rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Wenning grabbed eight rebounds.

Jamie Guggenbiller powered Parkway with 10 points and four rebounds. Hannah Beougher added nine points and nine boards, Luth scored nine points and Melinda Miller grabbed five caroms.

Olivia Thien had team highs of 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and six rebounds for Fort Recovery. Holly Brunswick had nine points, and Alyssa Brackman finished with eight points and six steals.
