FR's Kahlig leads Oilers
Collegiate Check-up
Greg Kahlig’s success in exhibition games carried right over into the regular season.
The 2010 Fort Recovery High School graduate led the NCAA Division II No. 7 University of Findlay men’s basketball team in scoring Saturday as it rolled to a 92-62 victory over visiting Ohio Valley.
Kahlig was one of four Oilers to reach double figures in the game, shooting 50 percent from the field and hitting all of his three free-throw attempts for 18 points. He also totaled five rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks.
The sophomore finished with seven points, nine rebounds, five steals and two assists Tuesday in a 74-71 loss to Malone.
Pazia Speed
Jay County – 2010
Continued her hot start to the season Saturday to lead the Huntington University women’s basketball team’s 74-66 victory over Malone.
Speed, who totaled a career-high 26 points in the Foresters’ season opener, shot 3-of-5 from long distance en route to scoring 21 points. She added two rebounds, one steal and one block.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Helped the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s cross country team to a third-place finish at Saturday’s National Christian College Athletic Association championships.
Johnson turned in the No. 2 time for the Wildcats, who trailed only Malone and California Baptist. She was 18th overall in the 5K event with a time of 19:08.88.
Joanna Snyder
Ft. Recovery – 2009
Was one of two players to score in double figures for the Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team Tuesday in its season-opening, 62-53 victory over Albion.
Snyder finished with 16 points, second only to Morgan Dumbaugh’s 19.

Maddie Moore
South Adams – 2009
Was one of three Bluffton University players to be selected for the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer team.
Moore earned All-HCAC second-team honors for the third straight season after helping lead the Beavers to their best season in school history with four goals and a team-high five assist. She ranks fourth in school history with 10 career assists.
Drake Meska
Jay County – 2011
Picked up three victories for the Indiana Tech wrestling team, competing in the freshman/sophomore division at Saturday’s Michigan State Open.
All of Meska’s wins came by decision as he topped Notre Dame’s Louden Gordon 10-5, Michigan’s Thomas Brosnahan 5-0 and Findlay’s Steven Johnson 5-1. He dropped matches to Nick Hodgkins of Central by a 16-4 major decision and Chad Ryan of Columbia by an 11-2 major decision.
Frank Thien
Fort Recovery – 2009
Caught two passes Saturday as the Ohio Northern University football team closed its season with a 48-21 loss to Heidelberg.
Thien had receptions of 7 and 25 yards on the same drive in the third quarter. He finished the season second on the squad with 26 catches for 326 yards and three touchdowns.
Nick Teeter
South Adams – 2010
Started for the Huntington University men’s basketball team Friday in a 64-57 victory over Wilberforce.
Teeter grabbed three rebounds in the victory. The Foresters are 5-1 on the season.
Cori Vormohr
Jay County – 2009
Competed Saturday for the Ball State University women’s swim team, which won the House of Champions Meet hosted by IUPUI.
Vormohr placed 14th in her lone individual event, posting a time of 2.55 in the 50-yard freestyle. She teamed with Dana Graunke, Elaine Pitsas and Jennifer Miles for a time of 1:41.09 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Played for the Bethel College women’s basketball team in Saturday’s 72-50 victory over Clarke.
