FR's Kaup caps record season (11/22/06)

Collegiate Check-up

No libero in the Big East was better than Joscie Kaup.

The 2004 Fort Recovery graduate finished her junior season with the Syracuse University women's volleyball team as the top defensive player in the 16-team conference.

Kaup came up with 13 digs against Fordham, 14 against Long Island and 18 in the final match of the season versus Seton Hall to finish well ahead of the competition. Her 685 digs far outdistanced Connecticut's Jessica Isaac, who finished second in the Big East with 513.

Her total was also a new single-season record, shattering the previous mark of 567 held by Rachel Watson. Her 5.31 digs per game are also a new school record.

Kaup now has 1,656 digs for her career with the Orange, nearly guaranteeing her the school record next season. Watson totaled 1,791 digs from 1996-99.
