Fort Recovery cross country

BOTKINS, Ohio - In a meet that included two of the best teams in the state, two of the top seven runners were Indians.

Mindy Vogel and Tina Roessner placed fourth and seventh respectively to lead the Fort Recovery High School girls cross country team to a fourth-place finish at Saturday's Botkins Invitational.

Minster, the 2006 state runner-up, won the 11-team meet with 34 points, and 2006 fourth-place state finisher Versailles was second at 87. District tournament host Spencerville was third with 87, followed by Fort Recovery (103) and Ansonia (114).

The Indian boys were last in a 13-team field with 315 points. Minster won with 49, and New Bremen was second at 76.

Vogel, a 2006 state qualifier, finished nearly two seconds ahead of Versailles' top runner - Mindy Henry - to take fourth in 20:11.5. Lyndie Brown of Spencerville won by three tenths of a second over Minster's Lei Bornhorst in 19:58.1, and Jessica Albers of Minster was third in 20:02.

Roessner turned in a solid seventh-place finish, crossing the line four seconds ahead of Ansonia's Renee Schmitmeyer in 20:25.

A pair of freshmen followed Fort Recovery's leaders in the team's third and fourth slots. The duo went back-to-back with Abby Huelskamp in 33rd at 22:09 and Alexis Sutter 34th with a time of 22:10.

Amber Heitkamp rounded out the team score with her time of 22:44 for 44th.

Ryan Heitkamp topped the charts for the Indian boys in 39th at 18:59, Caleb Heitkamp was 56th in 20 minutes even and Alan Vogel took 65th in 20:50. Aaron Will and Zach Guggenbiller finished 90th and 91st with times of 22:22 and 22:26 respectively.

Middle school

One runner in each race cracked the top 30 as Fort Recovery's teams finished in the middle of the pack.

The Tribe girls were sixth out of 11 teams with 168 points, and the boys were seventh out of 10 with 156. Minster won the girls competition with 34 points, and Jackson Center took the boys with 66.

Nathan Fullenkamp turned in the top overall finish for the Indians, placing 13th in the boys race at 12-minutes, 34 seconds. Nicole Heitkamp paced the FRMS girls at 14:15 for 24th.

Christen Wendel followed Heitkamp on the girls side in 31st at 14:26. Joining them were Samantha Tobe (38th - 14:40), Mariah Koester (43rd - 14:47) and Brenda Link (89th - 17:29).

Mathias Koester matched Wendel for the Tribe boys as he also took 31st with his time of 13:11. Following he and Fullenkamp were Derek Rammel (43rd - 13:39), Shawn Roessner (49th - 14:13) and Adam Pohl (50th - 14:13).[[In-content Ad]]
