Gaerke, Fort Recovery clobber Blue Jays (09/30/05)

FORT RECOVERY — Tiff Gaerke generally leads the Fort Recovery volleyball team in kills, but Thursday night she did it to the extreme.
Gaerke doubled her average, pounding down 27 kills in just three games. She led the Indians to a 25-7, 25-10, 25-14 thumping of the Delphos St. Johns Blue Jays, improving the team to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.
Fort Recovery used the match against St. Johns (2-9) to get plenty of players in the lineup — 11 had at least one dig, and 10 scored at least one point — but the statistics were dominated by Gaerke, senior setter Jennalee Post and junior outside hitter Holly Stein.
Gaerke, a junior middle hitter who averages 4.5 kills per game, had a team-high seven blocks to go along with her 27 successful attacks. She also came up with eight digs, and scored four points.
Post put up 24 assists and scored 11 points, both team-best numbers. She matched Gaerke with eight digs.
Stein paced the Indians defensively with 13 digs. She finished one point behind Post with 10.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team lost for the first time this season, dropping a 25-19, 27-25 decision to St. Johns. The squad is now 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the MAC.
Kinsey Wenning notched team highs of 11 digs, nine kills and two blocks. She also had three points and one assist.
Heather Schmackers scored nine points, five of which came on aces, and put up 20 assists. Sarah Braun had four kills and two blocks, and Joanna Snyder and LeAnne Tobin each finished with seven digs.[[In-content Ad]]
