Gaerke powers Dayton

A Fort Recovery High School graduate was key in leading the University of Dayton women's volleyball team to an opening-round win in the NCAA Tournament. The No. 23 Flyers' run came to an end in round two.
Tiff Gaerke, who graduated from FRHS in 2007, racked up 13 kills Thursday as Dayton defeated University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee 25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-9 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
The junior finished second on the squad in kills while adding two digs and two blocks. She had a .267 kill percentage.
In the second round, Gaerke recorded three kills, two digs and two blocks in the Flyers' 26-28, 25-8, 25-17, 25-18 loss to eighth-ranked Illinois.
She finished third on the Dayton squad this season in blocks (88) and aces (29), and was fourth in kills (283) and digs (210).
Tyler Rigby

Led a group of six players in double figures Saturday as the Indiana University - East men's basketball team clobbered IU-Northwest 98-65.
Rigby shot 8-of-14 from the field and scored 18 points to pace the Red Wolves. He also added nine rebounds, one assist and one steal.
The junior totaled 13 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block Tuesday in IU-East's 77-66 loss to Northern Kentucky.
He had 11 points, three assists, one rebound and one block Dec. 2 in an 80-75 victory over Indiana Institute of Technology.
Joanna Snyder

Recorded three career highs in each of her last two games for the Ohio Northern University women's basketball team.
Snyder, a freshman, turned in her best scoring game thus far Saturday when she shot 5-of-9 from the field, including 2-of-3 from long distance, and 2-for-2 from the foul line for 14 points. Her three assists were also a career high, and she added two rebounds in the Polar Bears' 67-57 win over Heidelberg.
On Dec. 2, she came away with a career-best six steals as ONU clobbered Saint Mary's 82-60. She also had six points, four rebounds, three assists and a block.
Cori Vormohr
Jay County - 2009
Turned in a third place finish Friday to help the Ball State University women's swim team to a 172-102 victory over Eastern Illinois.
Vormohr was the No. 3 swimmer at the meet in the 100-yard breaststroke behind teammate Emily Karwoski and EIU's Kelli Dicanio. She finished with a time of 1 minute, 10.66 seconds.
The freshman was also fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.98 in a four-team meet Saturday at IUPUI. She teamed with Jennifer Miles, Mackenzie Imbro and Katie Jasmon for third place in the 200 medley relay in 1:53.3.
Casey Kenney

Finished fifth for the University of Indianapolis wrestling team Saturday at the Indiana Little State Tournament.
Kenney went 3-2 at the tournament, opening his day in the 133-pound bracket with a 17-1 technical fall victory over Ryan Holsten of Trine. He dropped his quarterfinal match 6-4 to Kyle Wacholder of University of Wisconsin - Whitewater.
In the consolation bracket, the freshman pinned Trine's James Green in just 14 seconds and then edged Matt Johnson of Lincoln College 3-2. In the fifth-place match he scored a 6-2 victory over Muskingum's Mike Halko.[[In-content Ad]]
