Gaerke's Flyers 1st in A-10

Collegiate Check-up

With a nationally-ranked opponent across the net and first place in the conference on the line, Tiff Gaerke came up big.

The 2007 Fort Recovery High School graduate shared the team lead in kills Saturday to help the University of Dayton volleyball team knock off No. 20 St. Louis 25-18, 24-26, 19-25, 31-29, 17-15.

The victory pushed the Flyers into the Atlantic 10 lead with a perfect 7-0 record.

Gaerke matched teammate Rachel Krabacher with 16 kills as she finished with a .382 hitting percentage.

She also had five digs, three blocks and an ace as Dayton improved to 18-2 overall.

The junior totaled five digs, four kills, two aces, one assist and one block in Friday's three-game win over Duquesne.

For the season, Gaerke ranks second for the Flyers in kills behind All-American Lindsay Fletemier with 201. She is third in aces (19) and digs (160) and fourth in blocks (34).

Maddie Moore

South Adams - 2009

Was one of the few offensive sparks Saturday in the Bluffton University women's soccer team's 2-0 loss to Transylvania.

Moore took one of only two shots for the Beavers in the defeat. She ranks third on the team in shots with 41.

Frank Thien

Fort Recovery - 2009

Got on the field on special teams for the Ohio Northern University football team Saturday in its 41-10 victory over Marietta.

Thien and the NCAA Division III No. 19 Polar Bears averaged 12.7 yards on their three punt returns.

Joseph Vormohr

Jay County - 2006

Anchored the Hanover College offensive line Saturday in the football team's 28-13 loss to Mount St. Joseph.

Vormohr started at center, and his blocking led to 112 rushing yards and 242 passing yards for the Panthers.[[In-content Ad]]
