Gaerke's Flyers improve to 25-3

A Fort Recovery High School graduate and her University of Dayton volleyball team are knocking on the door to the top 25.
Tiff Gaerke, class of 2007, racked up a match-high 13 kills Friday as the Flyers defeated Rhode Island 25-22, 25-15, 25-11. Dayton, which finished 28th in the NCAA Division I American Volleyball Coaches Association poll voting this week, added wins Sunday over Duquesne and Wednesday over Wright State to improve to 25-3.
Gaerke also had five digs, two aces and a block in the victory over Rhode Island. Against Wright State the junior finished with seven kills, five digs, four blocks and an ace, and she totaled three kills, three digs and three aces in the win over Duquesne.
She ranks third on the Flyers' squad with 27 aces, and also has 248 kills, 192 digs and 54 blocks this year.

Placed fifth for the Taylor University women's cross country team Saturday at the Mid-Central Conference Meet hosted by St. Francis at IPFW.
Johnson was just six seconds away from a top-three effort as she led the Trojans to fourth place as a team. She crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 29 seconds.

Also competed in the MCC women's cross country meet Saturday, helping the NAIA No. 19 Indiana Wesleyan squad to a runner-up finish behind 10th-ranked Spring Arbor.
Johnson was the No. 3 runner for the Wildcats and finished 15th overall. She posted a time of 20 minutes, 10 seconds, finishing just in front of teammates Anna Morgan (16th - 10:11) and Cassidy Wagner (17th - 20:19).

Scored 13 points in each of the last two games for the Indiana University - East men's basketball team as it picked up a pair of victories after an 0-3 start.
Rigby shared the team high in scoring Saturday in the Red Wolves' 89-49 win over Miami University - Hamilton. He shot 5-of-7 from the field and added four assists and two rebounds.
In a 78-59 victory Tuesday over Union he had seven rebounds, three steals and an assist to go along with his 13 points.
The junior also had six points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals Friday as IU-East lost 68-61 to Warner Southern.
Cori Vormohr

Turned in a fourth-place finish Saturday in the Ball State University women's swim team's 161-137 loss to Buffalo.
Vormohr had her best finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1 minute, 10.47 seconds. She was also seventh in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.05, and teamed with Shelli Kopetsky, Emily Richards and Chelsea Giuffre for a tie of 3:55.07 to take third place in the 400 freestyle relay.
The freshman was fifth at 1:09.71 in the 100 breaststroke Friday as the Cardinals lost to Akron. She was also seventh in the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.49, and joined Giuffre, Mary Ehresman and Morgan Baumgartle for third in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:58.66.

Moved to left guard Saturday for the Hanover College football team as it defeated Bluffton 52-19.
Vormohr, who normally starts at center, and the rest of the line blocked for a total of 346 yards of Panther offense. The team gained 125 yards rushing and 221 through the air.[[In-content Ad]]
