Garrett to leave ACAC
GARRETT — While the Patriots are preparing to join the Allen County Athletic Conference, the Railroaders are leaving.
Garrett High School announced its pending departure from the ACAC for the Northeast Corner Conference in an email Wednesday to the group’s athletics directors. The move is pending approval from the Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community School District board.
The Railroaders were part of the NECC for more than 20 years before leaving for the Allen County Athletic Conference in 2005.
Garrett athletics director Chris DePew could not be reached for comment this morning.
Jay School Board voted on April 22 to accept an invitation to join the ACAC for the 2014-15 school year. The loss of Garrett will drop the league to eight teams — Jay County, South Adams, Southern Wells, Adams Central, Bluffton, Heritage, Woodlan and Leo.
“So many different conferences are up in the air right now,” said South Adams athletics director Jason Arnold. “This is one of the reasons ... we felt comfortable bringing Jay County in, because of the uncertainty that other teams might be leaving. We wanted to be proactive.”
A vote scheduled on the future of Southern Wells with the conference scheduled for Wednesday was postponed to Friday. Arnold said he expects the Raiders to stay in the ACAC.[[In-content Ad]]
