Generator will cost $8,900

Jay County Commissioners

The Jay County Highway Department is planning to make use of the old generator from the Jay County Jail, but it will take about $8,900 to make it work.
Highway superintendent Ken Wellman told the Jay County Commissioners Monday that it will take $8,896.15 to refit the diesel generator at the highway garage.
When the jail was expanded and remodeled, the generator was replaced with a more modern version.
Instead of selling or scrapping the old generator, the commissioners decided to move it to the highway garage so that the department could have emergency power in the event of a major snowstorm or other disaster.
The commissioners told Wellman that they will submit an additional appropriation request to the Jay County Council for $10,000.

In other business Monday, the commissioners:
•Were informed by Heather Maitlen that the Impact Community Block Party to raise funds for the Jay County Community Flood Relief Fund will be held May 15 at Asbury United Methodist Church. The event will begin at 4 p.m.
•Created a line item and made Jay County assessor Diana Stults purchasing agent to purchase a printer for her office at a cost not to exceed $1,600.
•Were informed by Wellman that the Massey Ferguson tractor purchased last year for the highway department had an electrical fire and is likely a total loss.
The county paid $20,000 for the tractor in June last year.[[In-content Ad]]
