Second public hearing held on drainage project

GENEVA — A second public hearing for the planned $601,000 drainage reconstruction project here was held Tuesday night.

The town’s final grant application, which will be submitted to the Indiana Department of Commerce by Friday, April 2, required that a second hearing be held.

Approximately 70 area residents attended the hearing Tuesday, which was held before a Geneva Proud meeting where South Adams School Board candidates spoke.

John Dufek of Clark Dietz of Indianapolis and grant writer Jerry Bridges of J.L. Bridges and Associates of Anderson spoke briefly about the grant and project plans.

Bridges said that of the $601,000 needed, the town will provide a approximately $111,000 match. This amount will include $40,000 in Adams County Economic Development Income Tax funds. The rest of the match will come from the town’s community capital improvement fund, as well as from the town’s general and street department funds.

The town is seeking a DOC grant of approximately $490,000 for the project. Bridges added that town officials should know the outcome of the request by June.

The project, designed to alleviate drainage problems for residents living on Winchester Road, slates the new storm sewer project to begin at the intersection of Winchester Road and Spring Street and travel south on Winchester Road. The sewer line will then travel west on Harrison Street to Richfield Lane. The sewer line then will curve southwest on Richfield Lane, travel around Brenda Stump’s property, located at 206 Richfield Lane, and continue south under West Line Street, where it will connect with a proposed open drain and an existing storm drain tile.

The project also will add sidewalks and reconstruct Winchester Road.[[In-content Ad]]
