Geneva hires school officer
Geneva Town Council
South Adams will have a new school resource officer watching over its schools beginning in 2014.
Geneva Town Council swore in Connor Bonesteel as South Adams SRO at its year-end meeting Monday evening.
The school system and Geneva safety board began interviewing candidates Dec. 3 for the position, which became vacant when former officer Scott Dailey resigned in November. Having received nine applications, six candidates were interviewed and put through further testing.
Marshal Rob Johnson presented the safety board and school district’s choice of Bonesteel to the council. Bonesteel has been a reserve deputy with the Geneva Police Department since May 2012 and is a former jail officer with the Blackford County Sheriff’s Department.
Council members Dick Clutter, Doug Milligan and Jim Timmons unanimously approved his hiring, and Bonesteel will begin work at the start of the new semester on Jan. 6.
In other business, the council:
•Appointed 2014 council officers, with Dick Clutter as president, Jim Timmons as vice-president and Doug Milligan as council member. The council also reappointed John Patch as chief of Geneva Fire Department and Johnson as Geneva Police Department marshal.
•Approved the appropriation of leftover funds to the 2014 budget. There was $16,800 left in the general fund and $19,500 in surplus from the MVH fund, which clerk-treasurer Bill Warren will appropriate into the next year’s budget.[[In-content Ad]]
