Good for our safety
Editorial
No one would ever accuse the Indiana Department of Transportation of rushing into things.
But while we wish it had occurred sooner, we have to say we're delighted to see that a new stoplight has finally been installed at the intersection of Industrial Park Drive and West Votaw Street in Portland.
That intersection has always seen plenty of activity around the time of shift changes.
And after the Wal-Mart SuperCenter opened, traffic increased tremendously.
The stoplight not only makes the situation safer for motorists, it also provides a much-needed measure of safety for bicyclists and pedestrians. Sidewalks and a crosswalk would be even better, but for the moment we'll offer a round of applause for the traffic light.
It's been a long, long time coming, and it's going to take awhile for drivers to get used to it.
But it still counts as progress. - J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
