'Good old boy' selection
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
In reading The Commercial Review Tuesday, I see the school board hired a new athletic director with no surprise as to who it is. The school board at Jay County is very predictable as to whom they hire. The “Good Old Boy” network is always the best. I’m very confident in stating the current administration at Jay County had a lot to say in whom to hire.
Most of them were hired in the same fashion, and this way they have more control as to the new director’s policies and practices. Just like pushing the “easy button.”
One can only wonder out of the 30-plus applicants why they could not find a new face with fresh ideas to bring in. Maybe the other applicants were not as qualified, but when you know who is going to get the job before the process begins, why try?
Now the board must go through the process again, hiring a new football coach, and I am sure the same results will come from it — hire the “good old boy” again. Why not? It is just easier that way.
Maybe in doing it this way it will free up their time to make more decisions like wasting our taxpayer dollars on billboards that will never make Jay Schools any money or educate our children or grandchildren.
Oh well, at least they look nice.

Be proud
To the editor:
Jay County citizens should be proud of their local media for the recognition that two of the owners/officers received for excellence in reporting local news, sports, and other forms of information to the public.
Jack Ronald, editor and publisher of The Commercial Review, will be inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in April of this year. He is being honored for his contribution to community journalism along with his support for an independent and free press throughout the world.
Jack is a Fulbright Scholar who has undertaken training missions in many nations, many countries in the former Soviet Union.
Rob Weaver of WPGW radio has been selected to receive the Mary Bates Sportscaster of the Year Award for 2013 by the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
Rob has received many community honors for his involvement in community and county activities.
WPGW has covered news, sports, country music, and items of special interests to residents of Jay County, Blackford County, Delaware County, Mercer County, Ohio, and many other nearby communities. Rob previously taught school at Northeastern High School.
Robert Banser, retired editor of The News and Sun, has also been honored many times for his journalism expertise. Visit The News and Sun building in Dunkirk and you will see the many certificates of honor framed on the building walls.
We as a community should be very proud of these accomplishments and show our appreciation to these achievers.
We must also show our support to the media and wish them the very best competing in the field of journalism.
The Commercial Review has an extensive circulation in all of Jay and portions of Adams and Randolph counties in Indiana, and Mercer County (Ohio). There is a large distribution of papers mailed to interested citizens who formerly lived in the area or are interested in events occurring in the area.
